I know I've been driving people crazy talking about the interview Jaymie and I did with HOJA non stop...but I've finally finished it! I'll post a few tidbits here:
J: Um, Do you remember the first time you performed?
D: Performed with HOJA? Or performed…
J: Performed
S: Like you mean singing wise? Do you mean…
Me: Performed anything
S: Oh anything. Well I took piano lessons when I was really young, and the piano recitals were probably my first thing I ever did. My parents threw me up there in front of a piano and I was the scaredest little kid
P: I did choir, and choir was my first solo, we sang for the opening of a what do you call those things? Cre- Crematory? Crematory?
D: Crematorium?
~everyone (but Steve) laughs~
P: Alright there we go, they were just opening a new crematorium and…
~Steve starts singing the Death March~
P: they had a choir come in and so we did ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’
S: ~laughs~ That’s awesome! We should sing for the opening of a crematorium!
~everyone laughs~
D: One of my first performances, I actually started with a theater company in Saskatoon, called Stage 1 Theater Company. And they were like ‘Oh! You’re going to be an angel in the Christmas show!’ And I was like ‘Glee! I’ll just stand in the back and do nothing!’ It was the lead and I was like 12 at the time? 12...13, and there were all these older actors around who knew what they were doing, and I didn’t know what I was doing, it’s a very memorable experience.
J: Gotcha
T: I was uh.. I wasn’t singing, I was in grade 1 acting in a play, a class play, and I was the king, and I had to say ‘Guard seize him!’ ~motions to the air for ‘guard’ to seize ‘person’~ and I didn’t have any teeth, so it was like ‘Guard Theeth him!’ ~does motions again~
~everyone bursts into laughter~
T: I couldn’t figure why everyone kept laughing.
S: Good work
T: That was my one line.

J: Oh, alright, um. Other than you guys, my favorite idol is Ryan Malcolm from Canadian Idol. And in light of Canadian Idol over this past summer and that, who is your musical idol?
S: I’m still gonna have to say Michael Jackson, I love Michael Jackson’s music, he’s uh, a little bit weird. Yes, I’ll give you that.
J: weird is a good thing!
S: His music is great, and the songs he’s written are, really just awesome.
D: Ryan Malcolm is one.
J: I love Ryan Malcolm. I saw some of his video last night, I was so happy.
D: I dunno, I’d have to say, I really enjoy Jann Arden, I thinks she’s very independent in her music, and I really enjoy her sound, ya know, I’m just an eclectic, I love to listen to all kinds of music, everywhere from the Beatles and the Beach Boys. I don’t know, I would have to go with either Daniel Bedingfield or Jann Arden, let‘s go with that
J: Kay
T: Danny Papadatos
~guys laugh, Jaymie and I look at each other with puzzled looks Danny laughs harder~
T: is one of the major influences… that’s him ~nods to Danny~
D: That’s me, that’s me, that’s why it’s funny.
T: And besides him, uh, Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys, I think he’s a musical genius
P: You guys are a bunch of jokers. They’re making fun of me because I love the Beatles and the Beach Boys
Me: they’re awesome!
T: But I don’t know, I think we, uh, there’s a lot of different stuff as well.
P: Uh, I would have to say for me, it’s Paul McCartney. Well, he’s one of them for sure, probably my biggest one.
J: And the Beach Boys and the Beatles?
P: Uh yeah, and I love the Beatles, and I like the Beach boys a lot too. They released one really great album and a lot of really great singles.
D: It was mind blowing.
